Rebooting the Blog

I started this blog after being laid off a year and some months ago, and I wrote a few posts with the goal of landing a new job in mind.

Fortunately, I have since found a new job that I love at MX Technologies! I am leaving those old posts up for history, but today I am rebooting the blog with a different purpose: sharing insights, ideas and technical knowledge.

I have put off doing a real tech focused blog for a long time until now. There is a ton of stuff online already and I didn’t feel like I needed to add my own voice to the cacophony unless I had something truly new and valuable to share. I don’t subscribe to the idea that everyone needs to be a creator.

Lately, however, I have been waist deep in Hotwire, which is the new way of building web apps with the Rails web framework and brought to use by Basecamp. This is a huge paradigm shift in modern web app design, and as such it has had its fair share of ambiguity, lack of documentation, and moments of confusion as all the early adopters have tried to figure out the proper way to use the new shiny tool in our toolbox.

As one of those early adopters, I have had to invent some patterns and discover some solutions on my own when my google searches turned up empty. That’s when I realized I was finally at the point in my career where I just might have some blog worthy things to share so that future google searches by those that come after me are more fruitful.

After all, we are all part of the human family, and considering the countless blog articles, how-to guides, etc that I have read over the years to level up my skills, I would be remiss if I didn’t pay it forward.

So go back and read my slightly embarrassing posts from when I had just been laid off, or not. I am considering this a new blog from here on out. Please stay tuned to read my coming posts where I will be sharing the insights I have gained and patterns I have developed while building an app with Hotwire.

Thanks for reading. Cheers!
